LikeDisliketechnically you cant without reformatting the drive, Deletion only gives the computer autharization to overwrite the data in that location, it doesnt always do it in good time, thats why investigaters can retrieve deleted data from hard drives.

LikeDislikeThere is only one correct answer here, and that depends on what you call permanently deleted. It is very dependent on whom you are trying to hide the information from. You can never ever totally erase information from a hard drive, unless you acknowledge that you will never ever use that drive again. The answer to total eradication of information, is to pass the drive under a powerful electron magnet. That will ensure that the drive is totally unuseable. Now if you use a diskwiper, which will overwrite your information. It will overwrite anywhere from one overwrite to thirtytwo overwrites. However, there truly does exist software that can recover info after that. But of course not everybody has acess to that. I personally for work purposes use a wiper and wipe our drives 5 times, and install an operating system over that. That is pretty safe – if the stuff you are trying to hide is more important than that, remove the drive and either pass it under a powerful electron magnet, or toss it into an ocean or very deep lake without anyone seeing you.
Have a good one
