LikeDislikeA crane! Totally. They are like the epidime (spe?) of origami! Plus the Japenese believe that origami cranes can give good luck.

The bit with the cranes is a group of 1000 cranes. This is taken to a temple to be a token of 1000 prayers. I understand that it’s not “official” until it’s in a temple.
There are also ways to incorporate single cranes in origami bookmarks, origami envelopes and origami chopstick sleeves (which could also be used for pens or pencils). Any of these would serve at tokens of effort without getting in the way of work-space.
All twelve signs of the oriental zodiac and the western zodiac might be used *inside* the photo-type mugs or tumblers to hold pencils or a small plant (or fake plant).
