To be a doctor, you should go to the best undergraduate university you can go to. You will need a BS and will have to take all the pre-med classes. It is always a good idea to do more than the bare minimum — so majoring in biology or chemistry would be a good idea.
After getting your BS, you go to medical school for four years to get an MD or DO degree. At that point, you are a doctor — but still have a year as an intern and three to seven years as a medical resident (depending on your specialty).
The best schools to go to for pre-med are the best schools overall. Look at any ranking of schools & try to go to a good one. In order to go to an elite schools, you will need a 3.8+ unweighted GPA, lots of AP and Honors classes, SAT scores in the 2200+ range, a great essay and some extracurricular activities. You can still get into a very good university with stats that aren’t quite that good.
