Your How To Solution For Just About Everything

How to find a buyer for high quality lumber recovered from the walls of an older home?

By KC • July 4, 2009 • Filed in: Answer This If You Can!

The walls of my brand new residence have been lonesome with intensely tall quality, knot-free, 8×1, tongue as well as slit redwood boards. I’m told which if delicately removed, they could be utterly valuable. How do we find a buyer? Especially good would be a customer peaceful to assistance mislay them from a walls for a marked down price. I’m in San Diego, California.

Contact a builders in a hundred mile radius who specializes in building restoration or constructing additions with recovered materials. These contractors are always on the lookout to recycle recovered items not available in today’s lumber yards. And, yes, they will most likely be happy to help remove the tongue and groove redwood boards so that they are assured they will be removed without damage.

I don’t know if your boards are of furniture quality, but contacting some carpenters might not be a bad idea. You never know if they need unique materials for a client’s project.

You may also try and go to a lumberyard, not a big box home improvement store, and ask them if they know builders who specialize in restoration renovations. You may not want to tell them why you want to know because then that contractor gets supplies from you and not the lumber yard. Ya Know??

Take some great photos and measurements and make yourself some phone calls. I am sure someone would be interested in your redwood boards. Good Luck
