How to break up numbering pages in Word 2007?
I have a grave inform which we need to begin numbering IV, afterwards in a physique of a inform begin numbering with numbers. Not certain how to format this given it wants to begin numbering from a cover page. Anyone know how we can do this?
First, you have to break up your document into sections.
Position the cursor where you want the page numbering separation to occur. You have to insert a section break so Word knows there is a technical break between the sections.
Then go to the Page Layout tab > Page Setup section > Breaks.
The menu shows different types of Page Breaks at the top, and below that different Section Breaks. You need a Section Break, not just a Page Break, so select Section Break > Next Page.
If you want to start numbering on page 4 with IV and leave pages 1-3 unnumbered, put a Section Break after page 3 too.
Don’t use the Page Break in the Insert tab because that won’t give you a Section Break.
If you go into the Draft view (from the View tab), you should see a horizontal line and it actually says Section Break. If not, then try again.
Now go back to the Print Layout view.
With the section breaks in place you can format your page numbering.
Go to the Insert tab to the Head & Footer section and click on either Header or Footer where you want the page number and click on the "Edit" at the bottom of the menu.
You should see the Footers and Headers marked with their section numbers.
The key here is on the Design tab, make sure the Navigation section "Link to Previous" setting is unselected so you have have different footers and headers on each section.
So go to the start of the section you want to start numbering, which I think would be page 4. Click on Page Number > Format Page Numbers.
In the panel, in the Number format box, select the "I,II,III…" format.
Then in the bottom of the panel, select the "Start at" option, and enter "IV" and click OK.
Once the formatting is set, go back to the Page Number in the top and select Current Position > Plain number.
It will start number with IV.
Now still in the Header& Footer edit mode, go to the next section.
If it says "Same as Previous", make sure to disable the "Link to Previous" option on the Design tab.
Do the same Page Number formatting again, and insert the Page Number.
And you should have different numbering on that section now.
