have tons of snacks. don’t worry about making a ‘dinner’ or anything like that, but have cheese /crackers/ pepperoni. and chips and dip, stuff like that. have plenty of beer, soda, and bottles of water. i would tell him and not make it a surprise. some people don’t really like to be surprised. plus this way he can tell you who to invite, etc.

LikeDislikeHere’s my standard party plan:
1. Send an evite
2. Ask guests to bring a bottle to share
3. You provide snacks (chips, dips, etc. Hit up the frozen appetizer section at the grocery store)
4. You provide beer/wine, water and sodas
Set up snacks on a table for people to graze, and put beer/wine/water/soda in an ice chest for self-serve.
You don’t really need entertainment, but I have a great thing that is fun, it’s called Table Topics, and it’s just a stack of cards that have conversation starters. As people are milling around, they grab a card and ask someone close to them one of the questions and it gets people talking. You can buy them here:
Be clear in your invitation if kids are invited or not!

LikeDislikeI agree with the snack idea but you can also have fun making some finger foods like pigs in a blanket, bean dip, etc. One really good alcoholic drink I had at party a few weeks ago called Panty Droppers. You use 12 beers (cheap is ok), ice, and two frozen pink lemon-aide concentrates! I know it sounds kind of gross but it was the best stuff ever, and it kind of breaks up the monotony of just having beer.
Some energy drinks are always a good non alcoholic fun, and it keeps the party going.
Depending on your boyfriend a surprise party might be fun. I love surprises! But remember they are a bit harder to plan because you have to be sneaky sneaky.
Even though he is turning 25 it might be fun to have some games or grab bags at the party-gag gifts and what not. Cards are also always a good idea. Kings Cup is one of the best games to play with a bunch of people.
Or you can make it a themed birthday party-like ugly sweater party or something.

LikeDislikeif he is sneaky and good at figuring things out dont make it a surprise since u r just a beginner. if he is pretty aloof try it. keep the foods simple. have a couple of his fave foods and drinks. if he likes to drink get beer. decorate with his fave color.
